Every so often a memoir title lands in that sweet spot between plainspoken and quietly loaded. We Did OK, Kid definitely lives there.

It sounds intimate without sounding precious, which is harder to pull off than people think. That alone makes me curious. Add Anthony Hopkins to the equation and you have the kind of book readers pick up expecting stories, but maybe stay for the tone.

The memoirs I like best are the ones that let a life reveal itself through voice rather than performance. This one feels like it could work that way. And honestly, that is usually enough to get me to keep reading.
